CRYSTAL TWELVE

Don't let the seemingly low wattage fool you!

This little monster
will get
VERY
LOUD!!!

CRYSTAL TWELVE
1x12 Combo in American Poplar with Vintage Wheat grille.

THE CRYSTAL TWELVE COMBO

Twelve clean watts of pure, Class A power.

Cathode self biased to accept a variety of power tubes and rectifiers. And, at a flip of the Power blend switch it will accept lower power tubes like the 6V6 and 6K6 for added tonal freedom.

The Power blend switch can also be used to induce power tube saturation by reducing the voltage to the power tube.

From Pure and Clean to a Smooth, Bluesy Overdrive!

The Chassis

Point to Point hand wired using the finest materials available. Aluminum chassis are used for faster response and better tone. Both of the transformers, and the choke are custom wound directly on paper for TONE that is simply not available in a factory produced amp. The output transformer is interleaved, delivering all of the precious TONE that the premium tubes are producing. With a simple, uncluttered and direct signal path, there are no tonal losses incurred along the way. All of the CRYSTALs take very well to effects and feature a LINE OUT jack to directly interface a mixing console, or to slave to another amp.

Tube Compliment

  •  12AT7 (JJ Electronics) First gain stages

  • 12AX7S (JJ Electronics) Second gain stage

  • One (JJ Electronics) KT88 Power tube

  •  5AR4/GZ34 (JJ Electronics) Rectifier

Cathode self biased, the CRYSTAL TWELVE will accept a 6K6*, 6V6*,KT66, 6L6, EL34and KT88 power tube. GZ34 or Solid State Rectifier and the Preamp tubes may be exchanged with 5751, 12AT7, 12AU7 and 12AX7. * With the Power Blend switch set to the reduced power setting.

What's the big
deal about an
"upright chassis"?

When the chassis of an amplifier is inverted, with the tubes hanging down, several problems result.

The heat produced by the tubes rises up into the chassis. This causes the value of all of the resistors to drift and the efficiency of the capacitors to diminish. That is why many amps sound different after they have been on for awhile. The stability and reliability of the amp is compromised.  Also, there is the danger of tubes falling out. Those little slings that they use to hold them in, places a ground reference right up next to the plates of the tubes. The signal in those tubes is positively charged, and is drawn to the negative sling, thereby diverting a portion of it from reaching the cathode. This amounts to tonal losses.

So, why do they invert chassis?(Run mouse over picture)

One reason. People want the controls at the top of a combo. They don't want to have to reach down to the bottom to get to the controls. Plus, they can throw cords and other stuff into the bottom of the cab.

has found a better way.

Tilt the chassis!  The chassis is angled in the cab to put the controls up front, where the user wants them, while keeping the chassis upright for improved stability and reliability.

This takes  more work in the design and layout of the chassis, and the building of the cabinet, but the reward is in the TONE!

The speaker

The 12" Weber VST California Alnico speaker absolutely roars in this combo. It's 2 inch voice coil, 40 ounce AlNiCo magnet, and curved cone produce TONE beyond compare!

             The Cabinet

This cabinet is solid American Poplar hardwood and features dovetail joinery.

Vintage style leather handle is standard.

Other hardwoods are also available.

There are many choices of knobs, and 'standard' grill cloths. Natural Cane / Wicker grill also available.
